Vale Foot Clinic Consultations - COVID 19

Emergency Appointments

We remain open for emergency consultations.

Our college have advised us that during the COVID 19 outbreak we can remain open to support our high-risk patients ensuring that complications such as ulcers and infections are avoided. We cannot allow the NHS to be further burdened by the admittance of our patients to doctor’s surgeries and hospitals during these challenging times.

We encourage any of our existing patients who are worried about their feet to contact us during this period. If you feel your problem is an emergency (e.g. risk of infection or by leaving your feet untreated poses a risk to your health) you can call our reception service where they will arrange for a podiatrist to call you at the earliest opportunity to assess your condition.

When the podiatrist returns your call they will undertake a risk assessment with you to ascertain whether your condition constitutes an emergency. This assessment will be documented on your clinical record outlining the reasons why the podiatrist has either decided to treat or not treat your condition.

If our podiatrist decides that treatment must be undertaken all appointments will take place at our Barry clinic where we are in full control of both our clinical and waiting areas.

Any patient who requires urgent treatment but either has or is suspected of having COVID 19 cannot be treated in our clinic. They will be advised to call 111 instead.

During emergency appointments we will continue to follow the College of Podiatry Infection Control Standards as a minimum but will also take further steps to minimise the risk of COVID 19 infection.

All surfaces and door handles at our clinic will be cleaned to limit the spread of COVID 19.

Further more if you are asked to wait in our reception area chairs will be spread over 2 meters apart and no receptionist will be present.

Appointments will also be staggered to ensure patients are not waiting in the clinic at the same time.

During emergency treatment we will limit the time we spend with patients, and try to work at a distance of 2 meters away from their face. During the treatment patients may be asked to look away from the podiatrist.
